Message from the Principal

Hello OAP & HGE School Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter and enjoyed the long weekend spending time together as a family.

Looking Back

Over the past few weeks, we’ve had several exciting and meaningful events:

  • During our recent Staff Planning and Development Day, teams met collaboratively to focus on how we can best support our students.  We also explored the importance of fluency in learning and came away with some great strategies to support students in this area.
  • Both schools celebrated the season with fun Easter Egg Hunts  - a highlight for many of our students!
  • Our Early Years Parent Evening was a great success. We welcomed families to an interactive event that provided valuable information and helped build connections between home and school.

Looking Ahead

  • Red Dress Day (May 5) and Moose Hide Campaign Day (May 14) are both opportunities for students and staff to engage in learning and reflection around the importance of honoring Indigenous women and girls and taking a stand against gender-based violence. As schools, we will mark these days with age-appropriate discussions and activities.
  • Hats On for Mental Health is coming up on May 7 - students and staff are encouraged to wear a hat to raise awareness and show support for mental health.
  • Teachers are busy planning end-of-year field trips. Stay tuned for details coming home soon from your child’s classroom.
  • School Council Meetings come join us if you are looking to have more involvement in your child’s education:
    • April 30th 7 p.m. - HGE
    • May 8th 7 p.m. - OAP

Important Dates

  • May 15 - Professional Development Day (No school for students
  • May 16 - Day in Lieu (No school for students
  • May 19 - Victoria Day (School Closed)

Thank you for your continued support in making our schools safe, inclusive, and engaging places for all students. If you have any questions or need more information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school office.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Gascoyne

After School Baseball!

- PERMISSION FORM REQUIRED FOR PARTICIPATION -

We are excited to announce that our school has once again been selected as a Blue Jays Affiliate School! Thanks to this amazing partnership, we have been generously donated brand new baseball equipment—and every participant will receive an official Blue Jays hat and shirt!

Our afterschool baseball program will run for 6 weeks, starting Tuesday, May 6, and will take place each Tuesday after school until 5:00 PM. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to learn the fundamentals of baseball, have fun with their peers, and build skills in a supportive team environment.

Practice will always go ahead regardless of the weather. In more extreme weather, we will be indoors.

The only equipment your child needs is proper footwear. You are more than welcome to bring your own baseball equipment, but we also have enough equipment for every participant.

Permission forms were sent home Tuesday April 29. If you did not receive it and your child would like to participate, please contact the school.

Victoria Day Weekend!

Reminder that May long weekend is almost here! The school will be closed from May 15 through May 19!

Have a wonderful and restful break!

Community Clean Up

On Friday May 23 students will be participating in the Town of Valleyview's Community Clean Up Day. Working as groups, students will go throughout the town and help clean up garbage and debris left after spring thaw.

After the clean up, students will attend the community BBQ sponsored by ARC Resources at the curling rink parking lot.

Year End Field Trips

We have a number of exciting field trips coming up! You'll be receiving permission forms soon, so please keep an eye out for them. To ensure your child can join in on these great experiences, please return the forms and make any necessary payments as soon as you can. We can't wait to embark on these adventures together!

Drop off & Pickup

Reminder that the school doors open to students at 8:35am.  Please do not drop your child off prior to this time as supervision is not available.

As you drop off or pick up your children from school, please be mindful of where you park your vehicle. It's important to avoid parking in designated bus pickup and drop-off spots, as these areas need to remain clear for the seamless and safe transportation of all students.

Additionally, pay close attention to any No Parking signs around the school premises.

Abiding by these rules ensures the safety and efficiency of school transportation, and helps maintain a smooth flow of traffic for everyone involved. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Technology Fees

The 2024/2025 technology fee of $32.00 is now overdue.  Click Here to pay your fee online now.

If you are not able to pay online, please contact the school to arrange alternate payment.

Head Lice

It is important to check your child regularly for head lice.  While not dangerous and cannot spread illness or disease, they can be a nuisance and create a lot of work.

If you child has head lice, it is important to start treatment right away.
